This object was found in the back of one of the cupboards in the kitchen whilst having a ‘Spring Clean’ on Tuesday 26th January 2010. What is it? Could it be a small candle snuffer? Could it be a measure for communion wine say, for a travelling set? Could it be the spoon for incense to be placed in a thurible or incense burner?
The object is some five inches long and the hallmarks reveal that it was made by C E Williams. The marks read from left to right: CEW, anchor mark for Birmingham, the lion passant is the sterling silver mark and the date letter, lower case b, in a shield, denotes it was assayed in 1901. (Research – Wendy Slattery. The rumour is that Wendy is auditioning for the ‘Antiques Roadshow’.)
PS. It has been cleaned it up by Wendy as it was very dirty. (Jim tells us that she’s good at that sort of thing! All silverware for cleaning from now on to Wendy! She will be thrilled.)
