SQUADRON & CHURCH

CELEBRATE BATTLE OF BRITAIN SUNDAY

Fleetwood United Reformed Church was so pleased that 1301 (Fleetwood) Squadron by kind permission of Fl Lt Kath Lane, Officer Commanding, was able to attend to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

What made the morning extra-ordinary special were the contributions made especially by the cadets of 1301. To stand in front of ‘strangers’ to lead the congregation in a time of worship takes quite remarkable drive and they did not let themselves down nor the squadron.

ORDER OF WORSHIP

  • The Call to Worship

  • Hymn: Praise, my soul, the King of heaven (Tune: Praise, my soul. Music: John Goss. Words: HF Lyte based on Psalm 103.)

  • Prayers of Invocation, Confession and Absolution

  • ‘High Flight’ by Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee

  • Hymn: Christ is the world’s true light (Tune: Nun danket. Music: Later form of a melody in Johann Cruger’s Praxis Pieatis Melica with harmony adapted from Mendelssohn’s Lobsegang. Words: GW Briggs.)

  • First Reading: Micah, Chapter 4, Verses 1 to 4

  • Hymn: How firm a foundation, you saints of the Lord (Tune: St Denio. Music: Welsh hymn melody. Words: ‘K’ from John Rippon’s Selection of Hymns from the best authors.)

  • Second Reading: Philippians, Chapter 2, Verses 1 to 11

  • A WORD IN SEASON

  • Hymn: And did those feet in ancient time walk upon England’s mountain green? (Tune: Jerusalem. Music: Charles Hubert Hastings Parry. Words: William Blake.)

  • Prayers of thanksgiving, intercession and the Lord’s Prayer

  • Hymn: Soldiers of Christ! arise, and put your armour on (Tune: From strength to strength. Music: EW Naylor. Words: Charles Wesley.)

  • Act of Commemoration and Rededication
