HERITAGE OPEN DAY

September 24, 2011 / admin / Uncategorized

The church showed itself off in an extraordinary special way as did the members of the church family with their contributions. It wasn’t the best of days to attract visitors but they came through the doors in spaced batches throughout the day. All was possible because of the hard work of

John Gibson,

Wendy Slattery and

Ann Shadbolt

and as you will see below a whole raft of people.

Now this report is going to offend somebody who doesn’t get a mention. Apologies for that but there so many there are gaps. There were those who: got the place ready – David and the exhibiters – welcomed – thanks Sheila Shaw – exhibited – Wendy, Florence, Ann, Frances, Audrey, Jean and Jean, De-nise, Alec, John (D), Sandra, Tom – provided brilliant music by Denise’s people and John Gibson’s friends – the refreshments teams – Florence, May, Gladys, Mavis, Jane – and the organ scholars from Rossall School and the fantastic finale of Stuart Corrie who made the organ sing. And incidental to all because it wasn’t the purpose of the day contributions totalled over £70! Thanks everyone named and unnamed. It really was worth the effort.

Here are a number of ‘Happy Snapper’ con-tributions. (NOTE: Those of the young people have had to be omitted because it is unlawful to show them without the permission of a parent or guardian.)

SUMMER’S END: WINGS IN THE GARDEN

Butterfly wings;

butterfly wings;

frilly, fluttery, magical things.

Capturing sunlight

in sparkly shades

attracting my eyes

as summer fades.

Butterfly wings;

butterfly wings;

brilliant, breathtaking, spellbinding things.

The unbelievable

summer-sky hue

of Silver Studded

and Holly Blue.

Butterfly wings;

butterfly wings;

darting, delicate, dazzling things.

Tortoiseshell, Peacock,

Copper and White

colour my dreams

in winter’s night.

Butterfly wings;

butterfly wings;

are pretty and precious

and priceless things!

I knitted this mohair confection several years ago.

My husband calls it,”The Eskimo Skirt”.

But why should this be so?

For I think it looks like something knitted in darkest Peru by South American ladies in Inca temples, don’t you?

Well I hope it tickles your fancy.

It would certainly tickle your knees.

If you ever happened to wear it

you’ll wriggle all day (and sneeze!).
